We're engaged!!

I got engaged the Monday after Thanksgiving, on November 30, 2009 to my boyfriend, Calvin Allen. We'd been discussing it for a while so it wasn't a shock and there isn't some huge proposal story (actually he emailed me his proposal first, so I would have to tell everyone he emailed me his proposal), but I'm excited! We weren't going to pick a date right away, I just wanted the ring on my finger, but a few days ago, we were both Facebook chatting (can we tell we are computer geeks??) with an old college friend of mine (and one of my bridesmaids) and she jokingly said we should have our wedding on October 10, 2010. Then she got serious about that date and somehow got Calvin to agree to it, so we have a date! I'm so excited!

Immediately I knew I wanted the wedding to be fun, but elegant at the same time. I'm still working on the details though. My inspiration elements are: Alice in Wonderland (Mad Hatter Tea Party), the Roaring 20s and a vintage candy and soda shop. So I think I'm going to actually try and incorporate pieces from every one of those inspirations to create a wonderfully eclectic wedding.

I was just starting to research people to make the cake, when my friend Ashlee from high school created a Facebook page (again, we're nerds) advertising her new cake making business! So she will be making the cake, it will be 3 tiers with a back up sheet cake or something. Still working on that. But I do believe it was fate that she invited me to become a fan of her page literally the day I started thinking about the cake!

My bridesmaids will be my 4 close friends Rachell, Shae, Brittany and Stacy. All of whom I've known for quite a while, except Brittany, who I met in college, but when you live with someone for 2 years, it kind of speeds up the process! It's a little sad though because none of them even live in my city anymore, and in fact I don't have any close friends in town right now, so I'm sharing all of my wedding ideas with them through here. Thank goodness for the internet, is all I'm saying.

Anyway, I've got basics down, like the type of wedding dress I want, the bridesmaid dress style that everyone seems to be on board with, the cake, food and snacks, drinks (we're having a dry wedding so will be doing old-fashioned sodas in glass bottles and sparkling cider for the toast), guest list and several photographer friends (I want lots of photographs from several different perspectives, and Calvin and I will likely have cameras nearby as well since we both have a creative streak). The rest of it, like the decorations and location will fall into place later, though I have many ideas for both!
